May Newsletter
Greetings Daring Darlings!
We have many exciting announcements to cover in this month’s newsletter, so without further fuss, let’s jump right in!
Reactivating Frozen Memberships
As we promised back when we closed our Queen Anne facility, anyone who had an active membership at the time of our closure would still have an active membership when we started operations again. We sent out digital membership cards Thursday morning, but accidentally sent this email to too wide an audience. This email was intended to be sent only to those whose memberships were thawed, but instead went out to everyone here on the newsletter as well as to expired members. We apologize for the confusion this undoubtedly caused!
If you received this email with a card that had no dates on it, it is because you are a newsletter subscriber but not a member. If you would like to become a member, we invite you to attend one of our upcoming New Member Orientations (posted on our events page), which are required to join our organization.
If you received the email with dates in the past, it’s because you are an expired member. You are welcome to renew your membership, though we weren’t intending to blast everyone with a reminder of your expiration date (which in some cases was years ago, sorry!) If you would like to check out the new facility, we are currently offering a $10 two-month membership option which is available through the membership portal. If you’re having trouble logging in you can request a password reset by entering your email address here.
We apologize for the confusion the previous email caused and we appreciate your understanding!
Want to check out the new space? Here are our upcoming events:
The Grand Opening is just around the corner! The event is completely sold out and no tickets will be available at the door. We are looking forward to showing the new space to everyone in attendance.
The next CSPC Board Meeting will take place on June 13 from 7-9pm at the the Gallery Erato. We hope you’ll come out and join us. This is a great place to ask questions, meet board members, and propose ideas!
We are hosting a Volunteer Recertification on June 14 from 7-9pm. Were you a trained and approved EC, monitor, or cashier for the CSPC in the past? Want to be able to continue volunteering in the new location? Come to the Volunteer Recertification and learn the new rules of the new space!
We are also pleased to announce the long anticipated return of the Myself! Party on June 24! This will be the second party held in the new space. More information about this event can be found here.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Want to hear about what you missed? Here’s info about past events:
The most recent Volunteer Townhall was held on Sunday, May 20. In addition to the conversations about safety in the new space, discussions also focused on volunteer engagement and the need for additional volunteer training sessions. If you are interested in volunteering, fill out this short form to let us know how you’d like to plug in and we’ll work to bring you onboard as a volunteer.
The sixth and final Soft Openings Party was held at Factory Luxe on May 18. It was a fun event with many new members mixing and mingling. Thank you to everyone who came out, and also our amazing volunteers for making the party happen. As always, we requested feedback from our event attendees. We learned that attendees loved the tastings and we will work to incorporate more tastings into future events!
A Note from the CSPC Board President about the new location in Pioneer Square:
We had a great and productive discussion at our Volunteer Townhall on Sunday, May 20 where we discussed our exciting new future at the Gallery Erato. One of the major concerns that was brought up was safety due to its location, which I would like to address here. Pioneer Square has changed a lot over the years, is better lit, and has much more foot traffic than our prior location. While some folks have expressed concern about this location, others have noted that this location makes them feel safer than the relative desolation that we had around our prior facility.
The Foundation performed research about the safety of this neighborhood before occupying the space and shared that this particular stretch of Pioneer Square is one of the lowest crime blocks in that neighborhood. There are no bars on this block and the closest homeless shelter is a sober facility, meaning residents cannot use intoxicants.
However, we know that incidents can happen and no organization can guarantee the absolute safety of its events. We are in the process of formulating strategies for minimizing risk. A few options we are considering are having additional door staff, recruiting volunteers to escort attendees to nearby public transportation hubs and parking lots, and continuing our "in by 10pm" policy. The safety of our members and guests is a paramount concern of mine and the Board, and we hope that all attendees feel safe attending events at the Gallery Erato facility. We will continue to assess the safety of the facility and the nearby area to understand our opportunities to reasonably mitigate any risks to the safety of our members.
I encourage every member to come and see the facility for themselves, starting with the June 2 Grand Opening Event (which is now sold out), and watch as we slowly transform this space into a new chapter for the CSPC.
Sincerely,
Michael P. Woo
President of the Board of Directors
