Hump History Year Seven: Before the Eighth

by Teeebone

As the Hump began its 7th year in 2014, the ongoing challenge of staff maintenance continued to slowly escalate, particularly in the EC (Event Coordinator) department. The EC position is basically a manager type of position, and typically was combined with being a Champion or Host of any given party or event. By this time, a significant number of older ECs had left for one reason or another, and finding replacements for them was proving difficult.

Event Coordinators run the party, delegate responsibilities among the crew, arrange the volunteer schedule with the volunteer coordinator, handle publicity, and help come up with new ideas and themes if they are also Champions and/or Hosts. It’s a lot to take on, and by 2014 I found myself both opening and closing the Hump at least once and sometimes twice a month.

While we’re on the topic of volunteers, I’d like to give a shout-out to all of those who worked as cashiers during the Interbay days of the CSPC. It was a difficult job involving not just the typical cash handling and credit card transactions of a retail cashier, but also potential drama at the doorstep issues when it came to resolving conflicts over membership and/or admission to the party. When this happened, the EC had to get involved and make a decision on how to resolve the conflict. Typically, an EC could expect to be hanging around the cashier’s desk for at least a quarter of their shift.

As for the Hump itself, the party had become quite rope bondage-friendly over the years and usually had two suspensions a night. The back sex room filled up by 9pm, and the cuddle/romp pile was a center of activity while the solo space was occupied with an exhibitionist scene of some sort. In the previous summer, we began using a video projector to show porn on a big screen that divided the cuddle/romp pile from the solo space. The placement of said screen was optimal and allowed folx to watch porn from almost anywhere in the Main Space. It was literally the best backdrop ever!

Another thing of note was the wave of “kink-curious” members entering the community in the wake of the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon, and I found myself having to remind new members about the rules and etiquette that our membership follows, especially in relation to cellphones. Cellphones had been in use for years at this point, and the habit of checking the phone was a common activity. Handling this problem required some gentle reminders of the rules and making sure that they were followed.

The Hump rolled on with a birthday sundae scene in the Messy Room in mid-June. This involved laying down tarps to cover a massage table and the floor, with the subject lying on the table while ice cream, toppings, and pressurized whipped cream in a can were placed on them and then licked and/or eaten off the subject. VERY MESSY! Who knew that cold could be so hot?

While the Hump Crew took Xmas Eve off, New Year’s Eve came on a Wednesday the following week that year so we had a NYE Edition Hump and Whump! The event included a fancy dinner for 30 premium attendees and all of the spaces (the Main Space, Annex, and RAW Dungeon) open for play! 2015 was just around the corner!

Until next time... :^)

Hump History Year Six: Rolling That Hard Six

by Teeebone

In 2013, the Hump marked its sixth year at the Center. It is also important to note that the Annex (and later the RAW Dungeon) had been in use by the CSPC for about the same length of time. This extra space allowed the Center to hold two events per night almost every day, and as the membership grew, so did the demand for volunteers to staff the parties, old and new alike. Even an event as basic as a weekday sex-focused party needs capable staff to run safely and smoothly.

During this year, there were a few challenges that had to be dealt with involving prompting staff to stay on focus with their duties rather than behave like they were an attendee at the party. Most of them owned up to it when the issue was brought up, and a “teachable” moment was experienced by all. Staying in the game and learning from your mistakes is the key when it comes to being a good volunteer at the CSPC.

In May, the Hump launched a “Porn Drive” to put together a porn DVD library for the party. Up till then, we would need to go to the CSPC Library and check out some DVDs to play in the Solo Space. Putting together our own event library helped save time on setup. All told, we received 38 porn DVDs from our generous members!

In June, we celebrated the CSPC’s Fourteenth birthday with a Hump and a Whump! Some of the highlights:  A suspension / naked cake platter scene, a birthday spanking (or was it two or three?) and a high level of attendance (80+ members on a Wednesday night!) that promptly adjourned to the RAW Dungeon or back room after 8pm. Truly an epic event.

Tragedy struck in September however, when it was discovered during setup that our beloved mascot Humphrey was shattered in his storage tote. All seemed lost, but then somebody from the Hump crew took our broken friend home, and with a whole lot of love and glue, they managed to restore Humphrey back to his humpy camel self.

In December, the year ended with the annual Xmas Potluck combined with the Hump. For this night only, admission was a suggested donation of $10. So... an attendee could either: Donate $10, bring a food item, donate $10 AND bring a food item or just bring themselves. Amazingly, the donations were as generous as the spread for the potluck: A complete roasted turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, southern-style cornbread, noodle kugel, macaroni and cheese, carrots, green beans, rice krispie treats, pumpkin pie, AND apple pie. YUM, YUM! Holidays are the best when spent in community with friends and chosen family.

Until next time... :^)

Community Matters: Volunteering FTW!

by Eirikah Delaunay

Whether you’ve been a CSPC member for 20 years or 20 minutes, volunteering is the very best way to get the most out of the sex positive community. As a volunteer, you can get to know other members of the community while creating the sex positive events and connections you want most!

Here’s what some volunteers had to say about their experience:

“(I’ve learned) the name for the thrill I get in helping. (As a volunteer) I can stave off social anxiety, (and) I can spread accurate knowledge in a non-judgmental and free manner.” –Bridge, volunteer of six months

“I’ve met with more of the great people who make the CSPC what it is: a unique and wonderfully supportive community of honest, open people. Learning, teaching, exploring together and supporting each other.” –Explorer_271, volunteer of nine months

“Volunteering is like getting to hang out with my friends. (It makes me feel) like I'm making a safe, sexy place for others to gather at, which is so nice.” –Aileen, volunteer of five years

“You will get more in knowledge, community connection, and self exploration than the effort you put into volunteering.” –Explorer_271, volunteer of nine months

“It's your community; you'll get out of it in proportion to what you put into it.” –Temptr, volunteer of 19 years

You can be part of a volunteer team that makes the hotness happen, whether you’re working at a party or helping out with all the behind-the-scenes work of the CSPC organization. Hump History Year Five: The Fifth to Mention

by Teeebone

In 2012, the Hump was entering its fifth year of operation. The party had become a routine weekly event that new members often attended as their first CSPC party, creating a great first impression of the sex-positive community in general.

But along with the ever-lengthening track record, there was the week-to-week task of keeping the party fully staffed. Most of the original crew had left for personal or professional reasons by this time because “life happens,” and we were challenged to keep the party volunteer positions filled. Thanks to our volunteer training program, our successive waves of volunteers who stepped in to take over these open slots were just as effective as the original crew. With the official curtailment of impact play at the Hump enacted during the previous summer, changes in staff, and a desire to pursue other projects within the CSPC, one of the founders of the Hump decided to head out to become a host of another party and put together a new quarterly party as well. They announced their departure in early July, and after that I found myself handling even more responsibilities than before. Learning how to manage, delegate, and communicate effectively became crucial.

In August, a number of new innovations were introduced to the Volunteer Corps, including an EC Report Template that made for better and more detailed EC Reports. I put together a schedule template that helped make organizing the weekly Hump volunteer roster much easier. The volunteer training program continued to expand to help with the ongoing demand for staff for other parties and events, because at this point there was something happening almost every day at the CSPC. By the end of the year, I was handling the volunteer roster scheduling of the Hump Team as well as being the EC, Host, Champion, and sometimes the DJ.

In December there were two unique, one-of-a-kind scenes that took place at the Hump, a week apart from each other. One involved a suspension that was done very gracefully–with the female rope bottom covered in gold glitter. Many people gathered around to watch it happen. Clean up, however, took about two hours! The other scene was a "Harem Experience" which involved some advanced planning and a few extras thrown in for good measure:one guy, four gals (or was it six?) and appropriate music to convey the atmosphere... This was one of the most involved scenes I had ever helped put together, and I still love helping folx bring their fantasies to life. Though these scenes were a lot of work to help plan and support, both of them were great reminders for me of just how much fun it was to be running the Hump.

Until next time… :^)

Community Matters--Updates from the Board

For the upcoming in-person events in both May and June, the CSPC will continue to uphold our current COVID precautions: we will continue to require mandatory proof of vaccination; mandatory masking except for eating, drinking, or using your mouth in a scene; and we will cap event attendance at 120 tickets sold in order to maintain space for social distancing. As folks begin to attend larger gatherings where masking isn’t mandatory (restaurants, sporting events, art and music festivals, etc.), we are seeing an increase in case counts in our region. Please consider taking a rapid test at home before attending events at the CSPC to help take care of each other and reduce transmission within our community (free rapid tests may be available here). Thank you to all our members for your ongoing willingness to care for each other’s safety and comfort.

As the CSPC continues to expand our in-person event offerings, volunteering is more important than ever! All our sex-positive resources and events are for members, by members. Involvement as a community volunteer is great for both new members and long term members. Make new friends, learn more about the opportunities for connection and growth in our sex-positive communities, and enjoy the satisfaction of providing essential support for all the hotness you enjoy as a member! Event volunteers get into the parties where they work for free, with time for play before or after their volunteer shift. For more information about volunteering, including links to the volunteer application and online volunteer orientation (on demand), visit us at https://thecspc.org/volunteering.

Now is an even better time to get started with volunteering, with online training for Registration and Monitor roles happening from 4:30-6:30pm on Thursday, May 12

Stay safe, stay sexy!
