Hump History: Afterthoughts and Observations

by Teeebone

After the last party at the Center on September 9th, 2016, I took a well deserved break from the heavy activity for about six weeks. Then I started to miss the Hump. Wednesdays just weren’t the same after that. And then of course, I began to miss the other parties I used to work at, too. Power Play Mixed-Tape, OMG-SX!, The Poly Social, sometimes even Monday Madness– Typically I would find myself at the CSPC two or three times a week.

With all this experience, I sat down and thought about what made The Hump so successful:

  1. An EC/Champion/Host must learn how to delegate tasks because you can’t make the party happen by yourself. It was tough enough to do strike and clean up by myself, and I don’t recommend it. The CSPC has a lot of information and experience on “how to” put parties and events together and trusting others to do the tasks that you assign them can require an uncomfortable leap of faith if you don’t have experience in delegation.

  2. Online ticket sales FTW! Back in the day, cash was handled at the door and we had a registration program for handling admissions. To be honest, about half the time the EC on duty had to hang around the cashier’s desk to resolve issues that regularly came up using the old system. These days, ticket sales are done online in advance and this is a much smoother way to handle admissions.

  3. Many hands make everything more fun. On the topic of ECs, The Hump got to experiment with a three ECs/Night schedule for a while, which helped divide the labor so that all three ECs had the option to work and play at the party. As our volunteer corps continues to grow, I hope we can get back to this best practice. #worklifebalance

  4. Consent matters. The growth of consent culture (and classes on consent) has helped our efforts in educating our new members on scene etiquette, boundaries, and consent in a much more immersive and effective way. Explicitly elevating consent as a core value within our community has caused remarkable positive change.

  5. Listen to attendees and try new things. In the first couple of years of its existence, The Hump did a lot of experimenting with music themes, different setup options, various snack spreads, monthly special events like “Whump at the Hump” and “Cuddle Huddle,” classes taught by members like Swing Dancing, Tango, and Belly Dancing and even the occasional “Hump Town Hall” during the social where we asked the attendees what they would like to experience at The Hump. While we had to scale things back after the fourth year, we were able to streamline things to help us produce a better Hump for the attendees.

  6. The volunteer team is Fam. Build that crew and keep it together. It can be the greatest challenge you may ever experience, but I found it rewarding, especially when watching The Hump grow as an event. Always remember that the CSPC is a community!

I think that covers the most salient points. I seem to remember telling many a new member when they first attended a Hump that they had taken the first step in what would be a very interesting journey… And it most certainly was! :^)

Community Matters: Seven Things I'm Thankful For

by Eirikah Delaunay

It’s almost Thanksgiving here in the States, and I’m reflecting on the things I’m thankful for this week:

  1. Wicked Wordplay–This monthly online erotica writing and reading event creates a space of shared delight in the sexiness of the written word. Free for all CSPC members, $5 for non-members. Join us for all the fun on Wednesday, November 23!

  2. Community–The community I found at the CSPC has led me to my chosen family. I love the ways that we care for each other and support this all-volunteer sex-positive organization.

  3. Virtual Orphan Thanksgiving–Members of our community are gathering online from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, November 24 (Thanksgiving Day) to enjoy the laughter and support of being in good company on the holiday. Free for all–bring your own drumstick!

  4. Volunteers–The CSPC’s volunteers make all the sexy magic happen! Whether it’s serving at in-person parties, moderating our Discord server, or answering emails and issuing refunds when life happens, every task at the CSPC is done by a volunteer. Not yet a volunteer? Join us today! Many hands make light work.

  5. The Fucking Fabulous Fall Fundraiser–I can’t wait to see all the yummy goodness donated by our community members when the auction goes live on Friday, November 25! I’m excited to learn more about our community members through the items and services they donate, and I’m looking forward to helping support the CSPC through doing some of my holiday shopping at the auction. It’s not too late to donate your skills or stuff!

  6. Femme Dominion–So much hotness all in one space! This bi-monthly party for Femme Tops and the people who admire them is always a scorcher. Join the conflagration on Saturday, November 26!

  7. Community–Yes, this one makes the list twice. Your creativity, caring, and commitment make the CSPC the special organization it is. Haven’t been to an event in a while? Now’s the perfect time to reconnect with all the hotness! Check out the events calendar here and renew your membership here. Not yet a member? Sign up for a New Member Orientation to join in all the fun.

Thank you all for all the ways you contribute to making the CSPC a beacon for consent culture, inclusivity, and sexual freedom. <3

Fucking Fabulous Fall Fundraiser–Last Week to Donate!

We’re getting excited for the launch of the Fucking Fabulous Fall Fundraiser! Our auction site goes live at 9 a.m. on Black Friday (November 25) and we’ll be taking bids until noon on Friday, December 9.

Some of our latest donations include paintings, photography, artisan-crafted jewelry, a leather kilt, and a leather vest. It’s not too late to share your skills or stuff with us–donate today!

What can you add to the auction in support of the CSPC community? Maybe you can provide a service like an hour of technical assistance (yes, MailChimp is my nemesis, okay?) or a gardening consultation. Maybe you can teach a skill like fire play or scene negotiation. Maybe you knit or paint or build amazing customized music playlists. Maybe you have amazing taste and you’re ready to let some gently-used items go. The uniqueness of each item is part of what makes this event so much fun–let us get to know you (and your business, if applicable) while supporting the CSPC!

(Donations of services that involve two-way nudity or sex acts will not be accepted, in alignment with CSPC policy.)

Stay tuned for a special email next week announcing the auction site!

NEW EVENT: Sense & Sensuality

VÉRITÉ - new skin (Official Audio)

Sense & Sensuality is designed for those who are demisexual or who are interested in exploring intimacy. This event provides a relaxed social environment for people to make connections that could grow into something more with prompts to help members initiate intimate connections and gentle play.

For the first half of the event, the full venue is set for platonic intimacy with no nudity. For the second half of the event, the lower level of the venue turns into space for sensual and sexual intimacy. Each occasion will have a unique theme; our first event on December 11 is focused on cuddling, but future events might include live model drawing, the 3-minute game, sensation play, and other games.

Please arrive on time to attend the mandatory circle time the first time you attend Sense & Sensuality to learn the event-specific rules and agreements as well as progressive negotiation techniques for cuddling scenes and other sensual intimacy. At our inaugural event on December 11, we will be holding two circle times, the first at 7:30 and a second circle at 9:15 to accommodate folx who might not be able to arrive before the opening circle at 7:30.

1, 2, 3 PPMT! November for You & Me!

Show up to the party on November 12 to find out who our staff voted PPMT October Volunteer of the Month!

1! GET STICKERED!!! Come Sat Nov. 12th & greet our Champions Laura, Maggie & Rowan! Find them, say HI & they will consensually put a sticker on you in a mutually agreed-upon location!

2! MEET OUR CHAMPIONS

Laura says: Many years ago a friend of mine was asked "How would you describe Laura in one sentence?” His reply was "Nice girl, easy to dance to." This description still tickles me. So now I will try to sum myself up in just a few words. First off, I am an empath, or "a highly sensitive person." I feed off of and feel the emotions and energy of others. This makes me a fan of energy exchange. I am a switch. I enjoy the duality of this very much. I like sensual domination with the right partner, but I also enjoy bottoming to pain play. I am a masochist. I am usually an outgoing person and I am open to further discussing some of my kinks if asked nicely. I do love meeting new people most days. There are times when I prefer to keep to myself and simply observe. Again, with the duality. I have been a member of the CSPC for nearly a decade and I love the sense of community and belonging I have experienced.

Maggie says: A Midwest transplant, I’ve been a member at the CSPC for a little over a year. I was excited to join the community when I moved to Seattle. As I am particularly passionate about sex positivity and accessibility in kink. I enjoy attending classes, parties, and munches. Though vanilla obligations limit my schedule. I identify as a Domme and live a full-time D/s dynamic with my partner. I enjoy a variety of kinks and types of play and am not shy about talking about them or getting to learn about others. I’m definitely an extrovert and am always happy to connect at events or on discord. At PPMT you’ll most likely find me doing just that!

Rowan de Sade says: I’m not really good at defining myself as it depends a lot on who you are and what our interaction may be.  Mostly defined as a switch, but only with my Sir.  I am a top and love the interaction of power play, heavy impact and just having some fun with pushing boundaries a bit.  I have been a member of the Center for over 14 years and have seen some amazing changes. Currently, I volunteer at Power Play Mixed Tape as a Champion.  I love to introduce new techniques to folks.  Please drop by and say hello at PPMT.

3! Saint Allena's Helping Handies Fundraiser & Disadvantaged Outreach Project

The Power Play Mixed Tape Team is challenging ourselves & you to help with the Saint Allena's Helping Handies disadvantaged outreach fundraiser. The CSPC’s founder, Allena Gabosch, used to create small bags (with gloves, socks, toiletries, and perhaps a few dollars in them) to distribute to those living on the streets at Christmas. She and a few friends walked around handing them out...very much a project from their hearts, just personally reaching out to talk to folks.

We want to follow in her footsteps. We are asking for people to donate new or gently used hats/scarfs and gloves, new socks, and toiletries such as travel-size toothpaste, comb, toothbrush, mouthwash, shampoo, and soap. Or donate to the gofundme at https://gofund.me/3533bce9 by December 10, and we will use the resources to get bulk amounts.

Anyone who wants to join us will be invited to meet up to decorate, fill, and hand out the bags in the Pioneer Square area! Questions? Email ppmt@thecspc.org.

Note: This fundraiser is not overseen by or financially associated with the CSPC. Members of the PPMT team are volunteering their time to organize this for the community.

Community Matters: Registration and Monitor Training

After a bit of a wait due to some packed schedules - we have an online/Zoom training scheduled for Monday, November 14th, for Monitoring (6-7pm) and Registration (7-8pm) to get you started on the path towards volunteering for these roles.

To sign up, please log into Volgistics (or create your account if you haven't already - using the new volunteer steps here to get started: https://thecspc.org/volunteering) and sign up for each class you plan to attend - a shortened link to the Zoom meeting is included in the shift information. Signing up in Volgistics for the classes will help us update accounts more quickly after each class as well as letting the team know you plan on attending (in case of any technical difficulties or similar, we can send a note to let you know what's going on).

If you have opted in for 'Schedule Reminder' communications, you will also receive the link via email 2 days before the training.

A couple notes on training:

  • Monitor class attendees will have completed the first step on the path for monitoring. You'll work with monitorlead@thecspc.org to schedule shadow shifts for training with a monitor at events before you will be able to sign up for monitoring on your own.

  • Registration class attendees should be ready for shifts right away (please allow up to 1 week for Volgistics to be updated after class)

Not yet a volunteer? It’s not too late to be included in this training! Just follow the steps here to complete your on-demand online volunteer orientation and complete your online volunteer application.

Mmmmmm.... Sense and Sensuality

Do you want to explore allowing others into your personal space? Are you interested in sharing energy with another person? Have you ever wanted to experience emotional or physical intimacy without the pressure of romance or sex? Are you demisexual and a bond is needed before sexual activity is even possible? Do you enjoy the softer side of kink? Then this is the event that you’ve been looking for!

Join us for the first Sense & Sensuality event at Gallery Erato - 309 1st Ave S. on December 11!

Intimacy provides the opportunity to bond with others and platonic touch-based intimacy is an underserved need for many people. The CSPC wants to facilitate a sexually non-escalatory environment for our community.

The first part of Sense & Sensuality called “Lights On” will restrict any sexual intentions, including nudity, on both floors of Gallery Erato. Come meet new people, enjoy icebreaker intimacy games and engaging conversations. Join our cuddle workshop, the communal cuddle puddle, or negotiate one-on-one cuddles.

At 9:00 p.m. the downstairs space of the Gallery will transition into “Lights Off”. In this environment, you can expand your intimacy to include light impact play, nudity, sensual and sexual intentions.

Mandatory “Circle” required for event admission, party from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m.

Circle Schedule - December 11th only

  • Part 1 - Lights On: 7:30 - 8:00 p.m.

  • Part 2 - Lights Off: 9:15 - 9:45 p.m.

The “Circle” is a one-time requirement for all attendees as we will be going over event rules and guidelines. Once you've completed this, at future events you may arrive any time while the doors remain open.

We’re so excited to share this new event! Buy your tickets here to join us for just $25! Not yet a member?Buy your New Member tickets here! New Member tickets include mandatory New Member Orientation immediately preceding the event, your first month’s membership fee, and party entry for $35. Orientation begins at 6:00 p.m. sharp (doors open at 5:30 p.m.--please be early! Parking can take some time in this area).
