Personal Reflections on The Frolic 2022

By Sam

For those of you who know me well, this will come as no surprise, but going into The Frolic last summer I was equal parts anxious and excited. I can’t tell you the number of times I almost said, “Never mind, I’m staying home,” because I was so nervous.

I’ve always loved camping, and I’m a firm believer that life’s best moments take place sitting around a bonfire. I had gotten to know some people, but this was only a couple of months into my time at the CSPC. The friendships I was forging hadn’t progressed all that far beyond the “Hey, how’s it going?” stage of development. What was I going to talk to these people about for several days in a row?!? I was a ball of nerves.

In spite of my nervousness, from the moment I showed up—red security shirt in hand—I knew I was in the right place. Very little of what I experienced at The Frolic was what I expected, but it was exactly what I needed.

There were moments of deep tenderness.

  • A group shower that may have been the first time in my life where I was naked with others but without an ounce of self consciousness.

  • Playing with the hair of someone I had admired and was getting to know in a much deeper way.

  • Holding a new friend’s hand during a painful but healing scene where she got to reclaim a part of herself and where I felt like I was truly part of a community.

  • Falling deeper in love with a partner in the way that seems to only happen when drifting off to sleep together under the stars.

These are moments I could never have created on my own, but that I’m so grateful I got to share.

Before you go and accuse me of being overly sentimental, I’ll say that there was no shortage of silliness and shenanigans.

Have you ever tried a lube slip-n-slide? Neither had I. Strip Uno? It still needs some workshopping, but there’s a concept there. The attempts at diversion and distraction involved in a round of the kinky dating game were, frankly, astounding.

There were moments around the campfire long after most people had gone to bed where I laughed so hard I could barely catch my breath.

What I found at The Frolic was nothing short of magical. A sense of community emerged that was so far beyond what I could have imagined. As someone new to the worlds of kink, sex-positivity, and consensual nonmonogamy, I found myself surrounded by people who were open to discussion, who answered my questions thoughtfully and asked questions that made me think even more, and who were willing to hold space for me to think, challenge, and explore at my own pace.

I can’t promise that any of these things will happen for you at The Frolic. What I can promise is that if you’re willing to show up, be vulnerable, and open yourself up to community, meaningful things will happen.

Even after two rounds of The Frolic last summer, I’m still feeling that blend of anxiousness and excitement. I have no idea what gifts The Frolic has in store for me this year, but I can’t wait to see, and I sincerely hope you’ll join me.

Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti is recently-diagnosed autistic, a poet, public speaker, panelist, memoir-writer and long-time artist's model, as well as a former fundamentalist Christian and cult member. She is also a breast cancer survivor. In fact, it was the cancer diagnosis in 2013 that helped her realize how short life is; this served as the catalyst that caused her to come out as sex-positive, bisexual, and polyamorous. Most importantly, it helped her to finally set boundaries and refuse to accept shabby treatment (especially shaming) from others. She is very much interested in helping others identify shame, recognize shaming behavior, and finally, to transcend shame. She lives in Seattle, WA.

Discord Update: Age-Restricted Servers & iOS

By Flowers

Hi everyone! We here at the CSPC love to see an active community flourishing and interacting. This is why we are so thankful for our wonderful community on Discord. But as our Discord community continues to grow, we have hit a small pothole. According to the rules on Discord:

“For people age 18 and older, age-restricted servers can only be joined on desktop or Android devices. Those with iOS devices are required to ‘opt-in on desktop’ in order to view age-restricted servers from their iOS device.”

So, if you are in the Discord on iOS (any Apple products) and want to be able to access the group, follow these easy steps:

You have to go on the desktop Discord site and go to User Settings > Privacy & Safety and toggle on the “Allow access to age-restricted servers on iOS” to enable it. Then you should be all set!

For all of you who aren’t part of the CSPC’s vibrant members-only Discord community yet, you can join at this link. Your active member number will be verified before full access is granted.

Can’t wait to see you there!

May I?: Sense and Sensuality

Do you want to explore allowing others into your personal space? Are you interested in sharing energy with another person? Have you ever wanted to experience emotional or physical intimacy without the pressure of romance or sex? Are you demisexual and a bond is needed before sexual activity is even possible? Do you enjoy the softer side of kink? Then this is the event that you’ve been looking for!

Sense & Sensuality provides a relaxed, social & non-escalatory environment for people to make connections that could grow into something more with prompts to help members initiate connections and gentle play.

For the first half of the event, the full venue is “Lights On” for platonic intimacy with no nudity. During this time, on the main level we'll host an interactive prompt and on the lower level you are encouraged to engage in any platonic play.

May Intimacy Prompt: Non-Escalatory Cuddles!

Platonic touch-based intimacy is an underserved need for many folx and the CSPC wants to facilitate a sexually non-escalatory environment for our community. We’ll have a short Cuddle workshop following the SaS Confab that will feature 3 cuddle positions from the book “The Cuddle Sutra” by Rob Grader. Then the rest of the evening is opened for your cuddling pleasure! Cuddle one-on-one or with a cuddle puddle!

Please note that the noise volume of music and conversation is expected to be low during our cuddle focused events so as to create a calm and meditative environment.

For the second half of the event at 9:00 p.m., the main level is open to any platonic play while the lower level of the venue transitions into “Lights Off” for sensual and sexual intimacy. This is the only part of the event that permits light-impact play.

Let’s get cuddle-wonderful!Tickets are available here. Not yet a member of the CSPC? New member tickets are available here! New member tickets include new member orientation during the hour immediately preceding the party (6:00-7:00 p.m.), your first month’s membership fee, and entry to the party.

A word from Myself!’s hosts:

Celia:

I’m always thrilled to see folks that have been coming since the days of the bed with silks in the Raw Space and folks who seemed way too young back then. I love Myself! because I am dedicated to and inspired by the notion that we can create a space where many people fulfill their separate fantasies together. I love seeing the wide eyes when someone has never seen sex in person before. Seeing sex, in all of its forms, helps us realize that we are all human, that bodies are funny, and that we have more things in common than our differences. I hope you will come and help us celebrate.

Mark:

It’s hard to believe that our unique gathering is celebrating 16 years of bringing people together.  Just as if it were a person, Myself! has matured and grown from how it began. We have learned more about being responsible to ourselves and the people around us. We have worked to be more open and accepting of others who may not be like us, but who have every right to exist and express themselves in a myriad of ways. Across all of these years, all of these people have come together to share a space that celebrates them getting off either with others or solo. That solo play is what has really made this party stand out from all others, not just at the CSPC but in the region.

Join us for the celebration! Tickets are available here. Not yet a member of the CSPC? New member tickets are available here! New member tickets include new member orientation during the hour immediately preceding the party (5:30-6:30 p.m.), your first month’s membership fee, and entry to the party.
